Rumors of Mi 5 launching reignite

Xiaomi may still produce a sequel to the Mi 4, and it may be published in 2015. Following Mi Note Pro and the Mi Note arrived at the beginning of the year, rumors concentrated on a November launch date for the Mi 5. Nevertheless, a July report from Chinese site Cellular Telephone Father states an August 5 date Xiaomi is currently targeting. Apparently, a press conference will likely be held on Beijing to launch the apparatus, and would see the Mi 5 arrive over a year after the Mi 4 debuted.

Before the August date, there were reports of a November 2015 start. A tip published by Mobipicker said it had been advised of a November release for the Mi 5, which may be more than a year along with a half following the Mi 4 was declared.

Back in May, it was also reported by @leaksfly on the Weibo social network that Xiaomi would start the Mi 5 smartphone in November, at the time reigniting rumors that had laid dormant since January. In addition to the launching date, the leaker also remarked on the specification that was possible — and it seems like a monster.

Seemingly, Xiaomi held off releasing the Mi 5 until Qualcomm’s ready to publish the Snapdragon 820 chip, its follow up to the much-maligned Snapdragon 810. The Snapdragon 820 was announced at Mobile World Congress, and is an entirely new platform for Qualcomm, and it guaranteed samples would be available during the latter half of 2015, which suggests phones utilizing the processor probably will not be on sale until very late on, or more likely, in early 2016.

Does this mean a November launch date is not likely? No, not automatically. Xiaomi has proved it’s happy to declare and then wait a while to release a mobile. The Mi Note Pro was revealed in January, but did not go on sale until May.

While conjecture still grows, one thing seems certain — the Mi 5 will be a powerhouse. Together with the news of a November release, the full specifications for the phone were leaked in early July, and several differ from previous rumors.

The back camera may have 16 megapixels, while the front facing camera may come in at 6 megapixels. The new gossip additionally says the Mi 5 may include a microSD slot for expanded storage, a micro SIM slot, a 3030 mAh battery, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Formerly rumored specs including the Snapdragon 820 and 4 GB of RAM, together with the alternative for 16 GB or 64 GB for internal storage, are duplicated.

Talk of the Snapdragon 820 began back in May, after a @leaksfly gossip said Xiaomi and 4GB of RAM will match the processor, and offer both a 64GB version and a 16GB.

But if an August start date is accurate, then a Snapdragon 820 chip seems improbable, along with a Snapdragon 810 — like the one used in the Note Pro — may end up within the telephone.

Xiaomi may use aluminum for the mobile’s body, and it may quantify just 5.1mm thick. Eventually, as portion of the Snapdragon 820, the cellphone may use the ultrasonic fingerprint authentication system of Qualcomm. The fingerprint detector was also part of the July rumor report from Mobipicker.
