As an aviation professional, and having flown everything from hot air balloons and gliders to military jets and airliners over the past 30 years, I love aviation. I also love history. Earlier this year I found the story of United Airlines Trip 23, a Boeing 247 that was brought down by a bomb — the first ever case of terrorism against a commercial airliner. 1933 was a time of depression, gangsters, musicals, prohibition. An evocative time for sure.

I also enjoy a good mystery. In fact, my first three published stories are Scottish crime fiction. Some may say, “Tartan Noir.” When I came across United 23, however, I just had to write about it. But that meant creating a new series. New characters. Okay, no problem.

Andrew Stone is a former CIA operative who had to leave the agency when diagnosed with PTSD. However, he really suffers from Death Anxiety. He’s afraid of death. His. Going deep undercover to capture drug lords is not something conducive to Stone’s condition! Stone seeks a less stressful occupation as a private investigator, but when a mysterious man enlists his help, all thought of the quiet life goes out the window.
