I heard V.S. Naipaul or some curmudgeon writer say in an interview, 20-year-olds are incredibly stupid; they should keep their opinions to themselves until they’ve lived a bit more. I was 21 at the time and took offense. I thought I was wise. Now that I’m 35, I see he was absolutely right. I was stupid stupid stupid.
My advice to 20-somethings… Live. Laugh. Cry. Persevere. Figure out who you are and who you aren’t. Speak with people who’ve been where you are. And by speak, I mean ask their stories and listen. Learn from their mistakes. It’s all been done before.
