Treating an alcohol addiction implies a lot of physical and emotional issues that you have to take into account. An important thing in this process is your meals. What you eat plays an important role in the recovery process. This is some advice concerning your diet if you are going through an alcohol detox.

Drinks and liquids

When withdrawing from alcohol, your body intakes less fluid than typical. This is why hydration is very important. In order to give your body significant nutritional support you should:

  • drink a lot of water.
  • drink teas, fruit, and vegetable juices.
  • prepare soups.
  • include healthy oils such as olive oil and coconut oil.

Fruits and vegetables

Besides their health properties, many caregivers often recommend fruits and vegetables during alcohol detox. That is because they

  • have high amounts of fiber. This way they digest very fast.
  • contain sugar. When withdrawing or detoxing from alcohol, many people crave sweets. Consuming fruits fulfills the craving for sweets. Therefore, the most recommended fruits are strawberries, bananas, pears, raspberries, oranges and figs.

During alcohol detox your appetite decreases significantly. Eating fruits and vegetables doesn’t weigh too heavily on your stomach.

Fat low proteins

Due to the decreased appetite, you should eat high fiber foods in order to feel full. Proteins with low fat content are perfect in this case. They positively affect your mood and energy, and reduces the risk of relapse. Such foods include fish, lean beef, beans, chicken, eggs, and poultry.
