Great article Seth and I agree with many of your points. However, there are a few things that I think you’re missing out on.
First, you seem to assume that driverless cars will all be electric. As I understand it the car makers and even none car makers who are venturing into the driverless space have not yet pledged that they will be electric or even hybrid. I even think that many driverless cars in production are in fact petrol cars. Therefore driverless cars will still run on oil.
And you seem to miss out what will have the biggest demand for oil in the future, that of aviation. And unlike road transport, the technology is not yet there to run aeroplanes on electricity.
