Practice Makes Perfect

This is a piece of bullshit that I have often heard repeated over the years. I say that it is bullshit purely and simply because that is what it is. Just stop and ask yourself what is perfection? I guarantee that you will not have, what I would consider an adequate, answer - I know that I don’t. So many strive to achieve ‘perfection’ in all that they do - why? Whilst the idea of ‘perfection’ is all very laudable, I do know that it is not something that I would want to attain - why, I hear you ask. Let me explain. To have attained perfection would mean that I had arrived at my goal, there is nowhere else to go - what next? Take my preferred medium, photography, if one day I actually took the ‘perfect’ photograph, then I might as well throw away my camera and never create another image - after all, I have taken the ‘perfect’ photo, and that, by the very nature of the word ‘perfect’, cannot be improved upon. I continually strive to improve my skills and techniques, but that is very different from chasing perfection, that is just continually seeking new ways of telling the story. I strive to show others the world as seen through my own eyes, in the hope that they will see, and perhaps appreciate, the beauty that I see all around me, and maybe be inspired to seek and explore that beauty for themselves.
