Whisky, Vinyl, wigs, false teeth and more make up our list of things to do in the ding this week.

Monday 5th to Sunday 11th March 2018

1. Em-Bee-Pee: Saint Agnes/Favourite Fears/Doops

Tuesday 6th March at The Purple Turtle on Gun Street from 8pm. Free entry.

The Purple Turtle will be hosting the first of two gigs from Em-Bee-Dee this coming week. One of Reading’s unsigned gems Favourite Fears will be providing bouncing riffs and thumping drumbeats, in support to headliners Saint Agnes as part of their Witching Hour tour, alongside Doops.

Classic Rock Magazine describe St Agnes as a band who “make a glorious, sleazy racket which starts out like the theme from the Old Grey Whistle Test and ends up altogether more stompy”

2. No Room For Squares/Rum & Whisky Club

Reading’ number one vinyl lover — Jim B. Donavan

Wednesday 7th March at the Milk Bar in Merchants Place from 7pm. Free Entry

No Room For Squares graces the Milk Bar for its monthly residency on Wednesday night as Reading’s vinyl king Jim B. Donavan takes on a journey through his extensive jazz archive, with guest DJ Fern ‘Mr Cool’ Rose.

Everything will be played from vinyl, and don’t forget it’s the Milk Bar’s Rum & Whisky Club with one third off all the aforementioned.

3. John Kearns: Don’t Worry They’re Here

Thursday 8th March at South Street Arts Centre from 8pm. Tickets are from £12.

The only ever winner of both the Best Show and Best Newcomer prize at the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Awards brings his latest stand-up show to South Street this week.

John Kearns has also appeared on BBC3’s Top Coppers, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats and heard on his own BBC Radio Four series. Following highly acclaimed, sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and at London’s Soho Theatre, John dons his false teeth and monk wig for his debut UK tour.

4. The Rod Stewart Story: Some Guys Have All The Luck

Friday 9th March at The Hexagon Theatre on Queen’s Walk from 7.30pm. Tickets are £23.

Some Guys Have All The Luck is a fantastic theatrical production celebrating the career of one of rocks greatest icons, Rod Stewart — from street busker through to international superstar.

Paul Metcalfe delivers an authentic and charismatic performance assuming the persona of this legendary singer-songwriter, and the show includes all the massive hits from Rod’s incredible career, classic rockers like Maggie May, Baby Jane and Da Ya Think I’m Sexy.

5. Seven Drunken Nights — The Story of the Dubliners

Thursday 8th March at The Hexagon on Queen’s Walk from 7.30pm. Tickets are £23, concessions £2 off.
