Skirts for men are a men’s health issue!
Really?
Yes! Allow me to explain
Nowhere in western culture is the expectation gap between men and women more evident than in clothes shops and in the different ways we dress. Expectation is high and conformity is the norm.
How does this affect men’s health?
Whether by nature or by nurture the range of self expression in clothing for men is limited. Men are not by nature limited creatures. Men have as much need for self expression and growth as women do but since Victorian times the stiff upper lipped, strong and silent type has been the norm. Interestly it was during Victoria’s reign that crossdressing became popular. For men of course, I still am yet to meet a female transvestite. Something about the restriction of male expression leads men toward the only acceptable way to dress up. To dress up as a woman. Except it isn’t acceptable as many transvestites will tell you. The 'man box' was not made by men alone, we all agreed for a while at least that men would restrict themselves to trousers. We all agreed that those men who wanted to dress up would do so in a way that denied there maleness. So, to me at least, it’s no suprise that trans people are more likely to be men trying to be women rather than the other way around. Why is this?
Is it because the man box is too small?
Could we make the man box bigger?
Would a bigger box (or no box at all?) make a difference for young boys growing up?
I hope so.
The box marked man is getting bigger and that’s a good thing.
