I’ve written over 72 stories ranging from short stories to novellas, to novels (7 currently). Typically the entire story flashes in my brain in a matter of a second of less. All I have to do is simply flow the story onto paper (digitally). My only setback is the speed at which I can press the keys.
I started my writing project on December 19, 2014 solely to maintain my sanity (or insanity) over a troubling circumstance. I wrote “Our Beautiful Love Story” subtitled “A True Story that Never Happened.” My first novel of over 90k words. I’m still writing it because of events that have happened since (see “Truth & Tragedy”). Since, I crafted 7 novels all that which flashed in my mind and sixty some shorts (7k - 35k words) and a few flash fiction (1k words or less).
Considering, personally, my issue isn’t the actual writing. The biggest problem is getting the writes in front of their intended readers.
I subscribed to tons of blogs and websites by proclaimed best seller authors and discovered that 99% of them are touting to make money writing you have to hold webinars, consult, tell people how to write, blah, blah, blah. Not a SINGLE ONE of them cited, objectively, how to get the writes in front of their intended readers.
There are thousands of more reads than there are readers.
So you can see that that is the challenge. My editors all LOVE to write. However they don’t write. One is a full time mom, a full time teacher, a full time student, and she said she’s not doing the one thing that she loves, to write. I’ve read small chunks of her writes and I wanted more. In order to WRITE, she’ll need to forsake at least one of her full time activities. She’s thinking of dropping her teaching job (9th grade English). I’ve read chunks from two other editors, I wanting more, they’re too busy making money editing projects (one edits the Nora Roberts family).
If you visit, most all the venues where you can buy or download reads, there is an overwhelming number of reads, not a SINGLE ONE of them standout. Purely by CHANCE I picked up a read (Relentless by Karen Lynch) and couldn’t put it down. I honestly don’t care about worn out wolves and dudes walking around with oversize canines to suck the blood out of my neck, however, her write sucked me in! Go figure. Don’t forget the author whose computer has written over 700,000 writes (artificial intelligence did the actual writing within minutes each) and posted them on Amazon.com books to sell.
How do you know that you’re not paying $19.00 for a computer generated read, not coming from the heart?
There are all kinds of angles how to get “a read” out there and it all is actually becoming very disturbing. Through one of the venues I receive daily, I get solicited to read “romance novels” maybe 20–30 a day, all bearing the same theme, cover material, and preface to “draw you in”. Not interested. I have a N Sparks novel sitting on the table here and read but only two paragraphs, it being so bad, my mind is threatened if my eyes even look at it. I guess I should move the book to another place, huh?
