My CTO Friend Journal #4
Monday, October 31 at 12:39 am
This is Sunday evening, almost midnight. I just spent my weekend at the startup event as mentor here in Marseille. It was a great event and I met a lot of interesting entrepreneurs. There was a huge interest for makers — the philosophy of building with electronic components and hardware like Raspberry and similar devices. It was very impressive as an event.
I have a huge day tomorrow as I need to record the sales video and the onboarding video again. I also need to do at least one video course. I need to double-check that everything in the final design page is alright. I wasn’t really happy with the design I made last week, and I need to find a way to correctly use the sailboat graphic design in keeping with the branding. This a huge week ahead as I’m going to launch the beta version of My CTO Friend.

The launch is in two days, and tomorrow is supposed to be a holiday (I’m going to do my best to have some rest tomorrow). I’m very happy because I solved the last point that I needed to set up concerning the real-time production of videos. While I’m using my Keynote presentation, I was kind of blind because I couldn’t access the Open Broadcaster Software. Now, by using Keynote on my iPad instead of my computer, I’ve solved the issue and can now produce video content from the iPad. This helps me out a lot because I will be able to have, in real-time, a mirror of the video I am producing, and it will allow me to adapt in a better way the video produced.
Today, I have bunch of course videos to do. I have a clear idea on what to do and how to do them, so the challenge is how to create content as fast as possible and then be able to produce the videos in the flow of things. This evening, I will do another Q&A session, and I haven’t found a set of questions which I’m going to tackle.
Tomorrow is a holiday here in France. It was weekend yesterday, so most people are not working today. But I will do the Q&A session anyhow as I feel that it’s important to commit to do it. Hopefully, I will have enough questions to talk about this evening even if there’s not enough people connected in real time.

I have now the three courses recorded. That went well despite issues with the audio, but I now have a back up in my audio recorder. I quickly re-recorded the onboarding video, sales video and support or welcome video. I feel I did a good enough job, not the quite a good job, but a good enough job for the launch.
I feel more confident in front of the camera. I need to train myself again and again with the prompter, and be more confident and able to read in a more natural way while smiling and all that stuff. That’s a continuous improvement and I feel I’m going to be very proud of the launch even if we struggled and many things are not perfect. I feel good so far. Everything is going well.
I’m looking forward to publishing my blog post on Wednesday about the new platform. I’m going to use a quote from the founder of LinkedIn: “If you’re not embarrassed, you’ve launched too late.”
So I am embarrassed, but I’m going to let people know that I am launching. I will see what’s going to be the feedback. It’s a risk-free adventure that I think is an important thing to highlight. This is a risk-free adventure — I already have a consulting agency that’s working well. This is just about learning, creating courses, becoming better and better in English by practicing again and again. Lots of effort, lots of energy have been spent on the project, but for good reason. Hopefully in a few months, this online platform is going to be my main source of income. And for sure, I’m going to limit my consulting sessions to my previous and first few customers, as well as a few members of My CTO Friend.
Maybe this is a dream, maybe this is a kind of a goal for me to be able to do more things. We’ll see. This platform is going to teach me and make me understand what the market wants — if it is ready to accept a new form of collaboration.

So this is it, we are launching day today. I worked late yesterday, woke up early this morning, and I am very excited. I have a couple of things to do today. Unfortunately, the sales video and the onboarding video have a strange background noise, so I need to record them again today. I managed to do a couple of things this morning as we’ve changed our minds several days ago regarding the sales page. I don’t really like the drawings we currently have in context, but I think we just need to work out on how to add them to the sales page. Which is why we stepped back and decided to only use a couple of these drawings on the sales page, at least for now.
Everything is almost set up, the article for the social media blog post is ready. I’m also going to be at the studio for the launch announcement and will be inviting my friends to subscribe.
Almost everything is under control. I don’t know what time we’ll be able to send out the launch message, but it will definitely be today since I’ve already announced that today will be the launch. Maybe I will just get a few dozen of users, and they will not be really expecting much from me. I don’t think they are checking the website every minute. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to do everything I wanted, but I think it’s going to be good enough for the launch. It definitely is a continuous process of improvement .

We are in the evening of the launch. It was an intense day. Unfortunately, everything is not set up yet. The internet connection is not as as good as it is at the office. So I’m coming back home to upload everything on YouTube, etc. And once that is done, we’re going to send out the first message this evening to announce the launch. I don’t know what time that will be, but I will do my best to launch today because it was what I committed to people.
I don’t think there are hundreds of people waiting for this, but everything’s going to be live very soon. We struggled with a couple of things that we haven’t found time to manage. Like the follow-up sequence — that’s something that I’d like to have done. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. But we will be working on that in the upcoming days.

So here we are, we are online. It’s great, and I’m very proud and happy with it. We are about to see what the first users are going to say. From the early feedback, I know that their experience is good and people are quite happy with it. What I look forward to now is finding out how much value they get, how we can help them, and how to make it better.
I need to catch up with my consulting clients, so I’m going to work today with them. I expect that we are going to have a new post on the Making Of blog, and hopefully, one or two design details are going to be added today like the feedback button on the right-hand corner. We also should improve the support interface by adding some plugin on the left of the page. We are going to see how it goes, and I’m really looking forward to your feedback to see how My CTO Friend can help you in a better way: http://www.myctofriend.co/.
