The Hustle Is REAL
I’ve been writing poems and short stories since I could remember. Since I started writing my first novel, I’ve dreamed of seeing it on a bookshelf in a bookstore. It was all consuming and the story I was writing took over every spare minute of my day. When I finished writing it, I edited it and started submitting it to agents. I submitted it to more than 20 agents before I started receiving rejections. I finally decided to self-publish it on Amazon.
A couple of years after publishing my first book, I started writing my second book. The time spent between the first book and the second book was like being in limbo land. I wasn’t sure I could make it as a writer or if it would go anywhere. I even considered going back to painting again. I used to do art before I started writing my first novel. One day at work, I had an idea for a darker story. It consumed the whole day and I couldn’t help but scribble down ideas I had for my second book. From that point onwards, I continued to write.
It wasn’t till June that I took it more seriously and felt that I could carry on as a writer. In less than five months, I’ve finished writing and editing my book Moth. After the Christmas period, I took a short break from it before re-editing it. I started submitting my book to agents again and I’m continuing to do so. I decided to self-publish my book after a Facebook conversation with a friend. I even made it into a paperback book through Amazon’s CreateSpace.
The hustle is REAL! It’s blood, sweat and tears. Yet, I continue to move on and promote it through all my socials. I would never go back to how my life was before. I feel it burning inside me while hustling to get it out there.
