The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a non-denominational organization of agencies that work together to improve the quality of life for people around the world. The network maintains a strong presence in multiple philanthropic sectors ranging from educational efforts, through the Aga Khan Academies, to economic and infrastructure development.
AKDN Infrastructure development programs, which have been in place for over fifty years, include both large and small projects that are designed to improve quality of life and remove impediments to national progress. The Aga Khan Foundation, the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, and the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development are the AKDN Network agencies that are engaged in this work. In Pakistan alone, over 3,800 infrastructure development projects have been undertaken that benefit millions of individuals. These initiatives, which focus on poverty-stricken areas, range from energy and transportation projects to sewage and sanitation improvements.
