WHAT IS ANTIDISCIPLINARY AND WHY IT’S IMPORTANT?

While these days people mostly talk about interdisciplinary approach , we think for solving complex a problems and bringing innovation to life we need work with Antidisciplinary approach.

In order to become more familiar with this concept, Let’s read article of Joichi Ito, he describes the concept of Antidisciplinary approach nicely.

As I have written previously, one of the first words that I learned when I joined the Media Lab in 2011 was “antidisciplinary.” It was listed as a requirement in an ad seeking applicants for a new faculty position. Interdisciplinary work is when people from different disciplines work together. But antidisciplinary is something very different; it’s about working in spaces that simply do not fit into any existing academic discipline–a specific field of study with its own particular words, frameworks, and methods

When I think about the “space” we’ve created, I like to think about a huge piece of paper that represents “all science.” The disciplines are little black dots on this paper. The massive amounts of white space between the dots represent antidisciplinary space[1].

in Antidisciplinary Research and Development Association[ARDA] we don’t want to change the academic disciplines. we want to a create common understanding among willing researchers and practitioners who are interested in disruptive ideas , the people who can see future sooner than others.

Our goals:

• Providing tools for collaboration among various researchers from apart disciplines.
• Creating vocabulary for common language.
• Creating fast reading contents that let researchers from apart academic fields can learn the language of each other.
• Creating space for collaboration among people who have willingness to disruptive projects.
• Finding futuristic ideas that needed the collaboration from apart academic disciplines.
