Reflection …
Hiya!!!
Today started with a very interesting exercise, The Gratitude Game (as i tagged it) and we had a fellow from Andela with us. Oscar!!! ( a great teacher by the way). The game went like this:
- You give the person next to you an invisible gift.
- The person decides what the gift is and says it, e.g mine was a Tesla *wink*, and thanks shows gratitude to the giver.
- The giver then says His/Her reason for giving that gift and you move on to the next person
It was a really fun one. We also did one other physical exercising game too.
Today is a day of REFLECTION!.

After the the game and exercise, we got to our discussion of the day : “How to make sure your code works.” Almost everyone had something to say and we came to a conclusion that “Testing” was the way forward, and with testing came Test Driven Development. Here are some reasons why you should test your code :
- To reduce cost/risk
- To spot bugs
- Tests are good documentation
To see more reasons to test go here.
Also for more on TDD, go here.
As the day progressed, we talked about some things in Ruby : Arrays, Hashes, Blocks, Procs, Symbols and OOP. Don’t worry I won’t bore you with the details.
In the next session, we delved into Andelabs (sounds cool yeah? It is cool!!!). Well Andelabs is a platform where you get to work on various algorithms in various languages, and of course it’s custom made.

Oh I didn’t mention that we did an assessment *the time limit was insane*. It required A LOT of calculation.

CHECKPOINTS…
If you remember from my first post, I mention some things I wanted to get from this two week period Bootcamp. Well now I want to see how many I have achieved.
- Learn how to learn — in progress
- Team work — in progress
- Soft and People skills — in progress
- Feedback — in progress
It seems everything is in progress (should probably write a D.R.Y code for this*winks*)
That’s all for today.
Before I go let me just say, LUNCH WAS AWESOME!!! * inserts foodie smiley*
See ya later at the mine!!!

Lovelyn.
