As we all know a couple of days ago the inhabitants of Hawaii have lived moments of terror after a false alarm on a missile ballistic. After what happened, I imagine that many have asked the same question as me:

How is it possible that they have sent an alert of this kind by mistake?

Checking this tweet from @HonoluluCivilBeat account It was easy to understand how:

1,428,557 of frightened people and widespread chaos thanks to a poorly designed graphic interface, in reality an interface without any design.

The human mistake of sending the alarm as lead by a User Interface & Experience issue.

Thinking about how silly that has been, I decided to make a challenge of how much it would take me to design using internet resources a new and functional dashboard that could have prevented the error.

Ten minutes. Just that for design this new functional dashboard bellow:

How to design for a great user experience:

  1. Less is more: Use bold and short texts.
  2. Be visual: Try to be iconic, people “read” graphics.
  3. One unique design: Use few colors and fonts.
  4. Keep it simple: Only display import information.
  5. Minimum effort: The fewer clicks to perform an action, the better
  6. Common sense: Put yourself in the place of those who will use your design
