No, UBI will not create demand sufficient to propel powerful economic growth.

Me: Can I have some money?
You: For what?
Me: So I can start a poison oak farm.
You: No, you can’t have my money.
Me: Shucks

Let’s call this the persuasion model. This model makes sense to me. If you want my money, then you have to persuade me to give it to you. UBI shits on this model by simply giving people money for no good reason. But then what’s UBI’s justification for shitting on the persuasion model? The UBI’s justification for shitting on the persuasion model is the benefit of the persuasion model. The stronger the case for UBI… the stronger the case against UBI.

Right now our current system largely shits on the persuasion model. If the persuasion model is a good model… and the current system largely shits on it… then this might go a long way in explaining why lots of things are currently so shitty.

If you get a chance… you might want to try and coherently think about the persuasion model.
