Really well said! From my perspective, the best place for the students to start solving real problems is in their own classroom. For example, in Mimi’s classroom, her 4th grade students identified that it was a problem that their classroom didn’t have a pet. They then organized accordingly, discussed the issue and recently they pooled their pennies and purchased a fish for their classroom. Problem solved!

In theory, as the students get comfortable collaborating to solve smaller problems… then can develop the skills needed to solve larger and larger problems.
