My Animal Story
My favourite and worst animals and why that’s so (what it says about me)
A few years back, I did a survey while at the University. I found out people’s favourite animals, and while I cannot remember asking them why those animals were their favourite, I remember that just finding out what those animals were gave me insight into their personalities. A few days ago, I decided to really think about what my favourite animals were and why.
My Favourite Animals
The first thing I noticed about my three favourite animals is that the list didn’t have a mammal in it; but that’s beside the point. My three favourite animals in no particular order are the agama lizard, the crocodile and the penguin.
Agama Lizards: Yes. One of my clear favourite animals are the orange headed and dark blue skinned lizards that live in the city around us. Why? Because they symbolize bi-stability to me. They are one non-domesticated animal that peacefully co-exists with human beings. We see them and they see us and we have no reason to hate each other. It works. These lizards represent the possibility of a peaceful invasion, a difficult to imagine concept. They are proof to me that even when things change in an extreme manner (say heavy migration occurring) things can still be peaceful.
Crocodiles: Crocodiles are the symbol of survival for me. They’ve been on earth one of the longest but in manner so aloof it’s wonderful. They can go a year without eating. They are strong animals who only do what is needful. And that’s a big plus for me. Be strong but be reserved. Only use your powers for things that are important — like food.
Penguins: Adorable, consistent, and focused. They’re charming. They understand the concept. Penguins in zoos actually throw shows for humans. But their charm isn’t excuse for them to be reckless or unfocused. They stay with one partner their whole lives and stand in one spot with the egg till the mama penguin comes back — that’s consistency; that’s focus.
My Ex-Favourite Animals
Yes, I have this list. I’m an evolved person and that means having old interests and the likes. My two ex-favourite animals are the Tiger and the Cheetah. These were my thoughts when I was say, ten. I think that further inquiry and change of values and maybe a generally increase in my depth of thought are responsible for the changes.
Tigers: They are Large, strong and beautiful. They also came across as fiercely independent. And those features appealed to me. Till I decided they weren’t ‘independent’ just ‘loners’. I mean, what good did they ever use their alone-ness to do?
Cheetahs: They are fast animals. And for some reason, speed appealed to me. But then I discovered they were feeble. When two cheetahs fight they both stop to rest in between the fights. They are quick but not awfully technical or brave.
My Worst Animals
I have three animals on this list. They include the Dolphins, the Rats and the Wolverines.
Dolphins: Yes, they’re smart and all and very human like, but that’s exactly the problem with them. They have too many of the bad habits that we humans have. They rape, discriminate and bully each other, placing their sexual urge over compassion. I heard one even tried to rape a human being. Wow. Just Wow!
Rats: Rats are the symbol of, and symbolize being able to be brilliant and ingenious but lacking empathy and taking this bad behaviour too far. For the amount of really brilliant things they do, they are really stupid animals. Always pushing humans to the limit and ending up getting killed.
Wolverines: They are aggressive and selfish. And not very personable. And look nothing like their animal brothers, the wolf.
So that’s my list. What’s yours? And more importantly, how can you extract some depth from such a seemingly frivolous list?
