My children eat breakfast every morning — they think that it’s something that just sort of appears before them. I’m okay with that — they are kids after all.
I believe that breakfast for school going children should be something that will stick with them. Eggs, oatmeal, and multigrain toast regularly make an appearance on our table. I always cut up a plate of fruit, but I find that making a family smoothie seems to be working well as of late. Everyone thinks they’re getting a yummy smoothie — I think about the kg of fruit, hemp hearts, and chia seeds that I’m putting into my family.
I rarely sit down with them in the morning, but this morning I got up a little earlier than usual and got to sit down(lunches were made, dishes were done). Here is what I heard at the table:
“This smoothie isn’t as good as yesterday”(G — age 6)
“I don’t really like this one either Mom. It’s kind of gritty”(A-age 8)
“Did you put some Vega in this?”(frowning… H-age 40)(Answer — yes dear I did put a bit in yours…because I know that you’re working out today at Innovative and need a little bit extra).
15 minutes later and the kitchen was empty — Husband is gone, kids are getting dressed ready for school……..dishes left on the table. No thanks from anyone. No hug, no kiss, no nothing.
I’ve got them all trained with great dinner manners — I think that I need to start on breakfast.
