BUILD UP, DON’T BREAK DOWN

Criticism is a good thing but not if we wield it like a club. The trouble is when we find a fault in ourselves, we don’t just content ourselves with addressing it. We take that fault as a mortal blow to our overall self worth and start beating ourselves up — how could we be so stupid, so careless, so… We make ourselves feel miserable, like a loser.

Consequently, rather than dealing with this realization as a learning and a means to grow, it becomes a shock to the system, a cancer to be immediately cut out or else. So the fixing process is also tense and burdensome, rather than a lovely, positive journey towards growth.

Let’s just cut ourselves some slack. Let’s love and accept ourselves with all our imperfections and flaws. Let this be the first step of ‘fixing’ ourselves. In fact, no more fixing — only growth and transformation. With self love and acceptance, let’s take the steps towards transformation and make it a happy, joyous jaunt.

And why not apply the same principles to those around us? Rather than belabouring them with their mistakes, let’s lovingly support and nurture them, if needed guide them, on their path of growth and self edification.

Happy journey.
