We all have our crutches — things we depend on, build our identity and sense of worth around, allow ourselves to feel helpless without.
Truth is we don’t ‘Need’ them. We would be perfectly fine even if they didn’t exist in our lives and would be able to do everything we’re doing right now. Only we don’t allow ourselves to think that way — we’ve convinced ourselves that we cannot do without them and created this fake dependence.
And therein lies the problem. Cause the dependence is not allowing us to be our real selves, is causing us to act out of the fear of losing our crutch, is limiting our power and potential. That’s why we need to lose our crutch.
We don’t have to actually remove the crutch — be it a person, a job, a designation or whatever else — from our lives. We just need to detach, believe that if we didn’t have that in our lives, we’d still be ok. Cause we would.
Doesn’t mean we don’t love them or stop valuing them. We just stop building our entire existence around them. Just an internal switch. But it’s needed, cause life is unpredictable and we never know if what’s in our life now, will be there tomorrow.
Value everything, be grateful for it but let’s not make anything a crutch. We don’t need it. We are meant to fly.
