In 1945, when the war ended, the zoo survived only 4 animals: a deer, a donkey, a badger and a hippopotamus. In their honor at the entrance of the zoo there is the sculptural composition.

The zoo object the installation of brought in parts and has on-site assembled into a whole. Interlocking metal plates and rods creates the optical effect of illusory transparency and animals as a reminder of those terrible times.

Hippopotamus Hans was seriously wounded but managed to cure it with vodka. Animals living on the monument and the Hippo has also become a symbol of Kaliningrad zoo.

Animals stand on the back of each other, as in the German monument of the Bremen town musicians.

The sculpture is made from metal plates and rods. The month worked a team of 15 members of the art group “San Donato”: artists, designers, blacksmiths.
