Why Did Ancient People Travel Thousands of Kilometers for Incense?

Trade has been a key factor on the rise and fall of kingdoms and cities throughout history and trading posts or cities would emerge along key trade routes. The incense route was responsible for the creation and demise of cities in some of the most inhospitable conditions on earth, the desert. The hugely profitable trade in mainly frankincense and myrrh from South Arabia to the Mediterranean flourished over 2,000 years ago and was even caused the success of powerful kingdoms.
