A Photo a Week Challenge: Waterfront

The Arizona desert is home to dozens of manmade lakes. Some are massive reservoirs (see my photo journal on Saguaro Lake); others are crown jewels of housing developments.

The Lakes, built in the late 1970s, is one such community with an engineered body of water. Its centerpiece is a small lake ringed with premium homes, restaurants, and small businesses.

Some of the homes have a Mediterranean flavor. When my son was in high school, he wanted us to move into this neighborhood, one mile from our home. Some of his friends lived here, and he appreciated the beauty of the setting.

Many of the homeowners also have boats. The lake has tributaries that wind through the development behind the houses, kind of like the canals in Florida.

Man made stream running through a park.

I love the lions guarding this dock.

These pictures are my response to Nancy Merrill’s Photo a Week Challenge with the prompt: waterfront
