New York: what everyone knows and what I know.
What everyone knows about New York is…
It’s busy all the time.
There’s never a shortage of things to do.
What I know about New York is…
It’s expensive, but sadly, I got used to it. Five dollars for a gallon of milk, $14 for a cocktail. One time, when I was home for the holidays in Wisconsin, I offered to buy a round of drinks for my friends, and I did a double take when the tab was $15… for five drinks, not one.
It’s busy all the time, and everyone is going somewhere. There are people everywhere, streets filled with yellow cabs and buses, subway platforms packed to the brim, and sidewalks streaming with people, like ants in an ant farm. You never know what your commute will bring. More than once, I saw someone clipping his finger nails on the subway, and one time, the clippings landed on my shoe.
There’s never a shortage of things to do, but sometimes, the best thing is enjoying the quiet of your own space.
