Social Media Relationships

Kyra, I totally agree that technology is taking over our lives. My parents always used to tell me how hard it was to communicate with their family when they were in college. We, on the other hand, have multiple ways to contact our family back home. Our generation has all this technology that is taking over our lives. Social Media is a major topic when it comes to our generation. So many of our relationships are wrapped up in social media. I like how you asked, “if we are able to grow our relationships while individuals are plugged into their technological devices.” I would have to say that you could grow a relationship. My current roommate and I learned we were going to be roommates and contacted each other through social media. I live in Prosper, Texas and he lives in Livermore, California, so the odds of us meeting face to face were little to none. We began to contact each other through social media. We found that we had similar interests and began a friendship over social media. By the time we arrived at school, we knew so much about each other that we both felt as if we had known each other for a long time. Instantly, we became friends and have a strong bond. This is why I believe you can have a social media relationship grow. I believe if you do this in the right context it can be beneficial, but if done in the wrong way can be a complete technological friendship and not a personal friendship.
