An afternoon update on the Alabama weather situation

*Radar Check: Nunerous showers and storms continue to fire up across Alabama this afternoon. The stronger storms are producing heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Everything is racing off to the northeast…

*I also note that our friends at SPC(Storm Prediction Center) has upgraded portions of far Northwest Alabama to a “slight” severe weather risk while the rest of North Alabama remains in a “marginal” risk through tonight. SPC continues to monitor conditions carefully, but it remains to be seen if a Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be issued shortly. However, strong storms are increasing rapidly across the area and a few could be severe with damaging winds being the primary threat. I would not be surprised if a few severe thunderstorm warnings are issued especially over the western counties.

*Here is a look at the High Resolution NAM showing those strong storms sticking around into the evening hours before finally winding down later tonight…

*I will continue to watch radar trends closely throughout the evening and I will also be posting updates through my social media sites so stay tuned and stay weather alert!
