While I enjoyed reading this, I think many times you equate value from either financial success or popular acclaim. For instance, just because you spent a year writing a book that didn’t sell many copies doesn’t mean that time was wasted. Many useful, important, valuable things in life don’t ‘succeed’ in conventional terms (in fact you could argue that the most important aren’t even in that realm — e.g.quality time with your family, etc). So some of the things you said “yes” to, may not have stolen anything and been an essential — even if at times painful — part of your story.
