First Confirmed Case of Zika in Virginia
Heather Baker, a Harrisonburg mother of three, has become the Old Dominion’s first confirmed case of the Zika virus, a disease commonly transmitted from mosquitoes. Though where she contracted the virus is unknown, Baker’s best guess is Guatemala, where she served on a mission trip in November. Baker, who received confirmation that she had this disease from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is doing her best to be cautious and manage the symptoms of the virus.
