It’s not even wrong. Harassment mobs, with doxing and shaming were already a feature of Racefail 09, (as in 2009) which was an early example of the kind of self-righteous outrage culture that was then dubbed — plot twist — “social justice warriors” (so-called, not my term), later “callout culture”, “woke”, or recently “cancel culture”. What’s justified anger for one side (ethics in journalism / cultural appropriation etc), is harassment and doxing for another. Which side wins the interpretation tells you who‘s in charge. What is a bummer is that this was tacitly and not so tacitly endorsed by Wynn, Brewis and Ellis: they now taste their own medicine, which also happened before, see Atheism Plus. This was circa 2012, and the same, typical woke sectarian implosion.

I feel bad for them, but then it also annoys me that they endorsed this before, and now that they are hoisted by their own petard, the narrative is rewritten yet again, to warp reality back into a shape that makes sense for “you people”.

I am a lefty (of course) subscriber of them and I like them, but I did understand the opposition to gaming journalism of GamerGate and also knew of the Modus Operandi of the so-called “SJW” opponents, i.e. American critical identity theory hate mobs, whatever we call them. So for me, it needs no warping. It was always that way. It was clear long ago that the woke hate mobs would turn on each other, and it is already also clear that nobody wants to have had anything to do with it, once it became a total farce. But they made videos and positioned themselves.

I don’t expect you to believe anything. But the facts are easy to find, even with such misinformation similar as yours. Just use a search engine. I suggest you research “cancel culture” and the other names and pointers I put above. This isn’t new, either, see #CancelColbert.

The one difference is that when the target is someone else, it’s always just a twitterstorm, a “social media controversy”, an outrage. But when it comes from other groups, who transgress on the territory of the woke social media overlords, it gets a name quickly, or the name they use is quickly taken over, and smeared. This is why you can name #GamerGate, but the usual woke hate mobs go by unnamed still today. Racefail, Donglegate, Shirtgate etc are names but they mean the outrage, but it is not personified.
