The Family Meadow

By John Updike

Comment on the paragraph, starting from the sentence “Somehow, as the first wave of appetite subsides…” up to “… this strange joy?”

In my opinion, despite the fact that all the members of the family came from different generations, they acted as a group. They had some similar features: they related to a farm, and they “hovered…between poverty and wealth, between jail and high office.” I think they were glad to get together, to knock the threads of their tapestry into one. John Updike describes the family types and “drows” a picture of a perfect family reunion. Although they reconvened rear the family was very glad spending time together.
