This Girl Scouts program offers a much-needed lifeline to homeless girls in New York City.
Most people tend to see the homeless as this faceless nameless group panhandling in our cities. What we forget are the women with children in the shelters.
With meetings in the shelters the girls make friends, earn badges, and have fun. Through Troop 6000 they receive a sense of community and stability in an unsettled time.
When they move to permanent housing the support continues with a Transition Initiative that helps connect them to their new home community.
