Why I renounced my US citizenship (Hint: it’s not because I’m avoiding taxes!)

As an American living in Australia who similarly moved for a spouse, I can relate —the US is the only country that bases its income tax on citizenship rather than residence. Having to pay an accountant to do my US taxes every year and having to research our bank accounts, figure out our income for a different financial year, and pay US taxes when we do not benefit from any US services, is patently unfair and an undue burden. I belong to an organization that lobbies Congress on expatriate issues: democratsabroad.org (I’m not sure whether there is a Republican equivalent :-> ) and they are engaged with this issue.
