PoshPacker: Deal Memo Exercise

I may be a bit bias (as I happen to be CEO & Co-founder) of this exceptional start-up but I’m presenting PoshPacker’s opportunity here on Medium (as my very first post) and as an exercise, meant to be part of Aaron Batalion’s #DealMemo Challenge , so what better company to highlight other than the one I know best, my own :)

To preface my very first #DealMemo, I’m going to take notes from a casual workshop that I once sat in during one cold winter in Berlin, with Jens Lapinski , where he explained to us at the Techstars METRO accelerator the art of “Sophisticated Fundraising (in Europe).” The Cliff Notes version of that I’ll lay-out here below:

Sophisticated Fundraising (in Europe)

Opportunity/Future: (90% of interest is here- NOT your company specifics)

  • “The world will be different; The future will look like this…”
  • Solution X will win
  • My company will be important

Company: Your company is (the winning) solution x

  • Execution: CEO, Team, Unit Economics, Marketing, Traction, Clean Company
  • Competition: Who else is building this? Know them exceptionally well!
  • Capital: Investors always want to see the next round

PoshPacker #DealMemo Challenge

  • The world will be different; The future will look “posh, social, budget.” Today and tomorrow’s generations want to explore original and creative designs with a splash of culture (posh), stay connected while meeting others (social), and are pragmatic with their spending (budget). We are now entering the era of poshpacking. There is a new travel trend every 10 years, due to new needs and behaviors. These values are changing budget travel patterns and the way how people want to see and experience the world. Poshpacking is the next. It is inevitable, it will happen. Hoteliers will need to start offering “affordable lifestyle” options to consumers in order to stay relevant, profitable and popular. Big brands are already beginning to invest heavily into this space. Major hospitality companies are redesigning properties and creating new brands in the poshpacking space to appeal to the millennial demographic.
  • Solution X, one that combines what Airbnb did for the industry with authentic and local experiences and what Hostelworld did with social hostels and reliability on instant bookings will WIN. Personalization, relevancy and safety in travel is key for the future.
  • PoshPacker will be important because it’s for people who want the best of both worlds- a place to stay that’s unique, but also within a budget. PoshPacker’s curated booking platform and community network for today and tomorrow’s generation has become the center of the POSHTEL movement. At PoshPacker travelers can find a curated selection of the world’s most stylish and affordable travel accommodation, such as poshtels, themed hotels, and more; that are instantly bookable and secure. PoshPacker uses a mix of human curation along with technology algorithms to find you a memorable stay. PoshPacker has built the world’s largest inventory of poshtels. With a growing inventory and established brand in key markets, PoshPacker has distanced itself from competition. PoshPacker has over 1700 PoshPacker picks in 530 cities and 65 countries worldwide. The platform’s sleek design and collection of atypical hoteliers has caught the attention of hundreds of media outlets. PoshPacker has been featured on TechCrunch, The Guardian, National Geographic and more. The team, co-founders Anna Kojzar and Tania Cruz Morales are passionate and dedicated to bringing style and originality to budget travel. They’ve been able to take the PoshPacker concept from a mere idea online all the way to the front doors of hoteliers across the U.S. , Latin America , Europe and Asia. This is just the beginning. An investment in PoshPacker is an investment in the the future of travel, which is that of “affordable lifestyle”. I’m confident that PoshPacker has the potential to become the leading lifestyle travel brand and choice for millennial and like-minded travelers worldwide.
