Custom Form Elements on High Contrast Mode

Lately, there has been a trend on using CSS background images when implementing custom form elements. What experience do users who use Windows High Contrast mode feel?

The picture below shows a before and after experience where all custom form elements are completely invisible when Windows High Contrast is turned on.

Keyboard-only users who uses Windows High Contrast mode may also suffer from missing visual keyboard focus when they tab on each of those custom form elements.

Be aware that using CSS background images on custom form elements will hide your important checkboxes and radio buttons for some users.
