Should I Go to College?

So let’s cut straight to the chase — by addressing the big fat elephant in the room — by answering the all mighty question: “Should I Go To College?”
Yes or No.

I’m writing this because I wish someone had written this for me before I started playing the college game. It would’ve made my decision making a hell of a lot easier. I’m keeping this short and to the point because it literally is as plain and simple as I’m about to give it to you. Listen Up. Here’s the NO BULLSHIT answer:

YOU SHOULD ONLY BE IN COLLEGE IF YOU CAN HONESTLY ANSWER YES TO THESE 3 STATEMENTS:

STOP HERE IF YOUR ANSWER IS NO.

WHY? — Because if you don’t know what it is you’re going to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars per semester studying, your ass has no business being in college. Instead your first step is to figure that out. Go find out what it is that makes you jump out of bed in the morning. Go explore some more pieces of the world before it tries to tie you down with a bunch of burdens.

“But can’t I figure all that out while I’m in college? Won’t being in college help me find out what I want to study?”

ANSWER: Honestly…NO. Let me put it this way, would you rather be spending all your money, all of your family’s money, scholarship money, and/or also be racking up a shit ton of debt just to figure out what it is you want to be doing? OR would you rather be working (even if it is a shit paying job — at least it pays) and making money (instead of spending money) while figuring out what it is you want to do with the rest of your life?

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER:
At the end of the day, all colleges and universities (at least in the US) are in the business to MAKE MONEY. They will always be ready and gladly willing to take your money. What’s the rush?

STOP HERE IF YOUR ANSWER IS NO.

WHY? — If your chosen field of work or future career choice doesn’t absolutely require some sort of higher degree (I’m talking to you BUSINESS MAJORS), then I’m telling you to put college ON HOLD. You have to remember that we’re living in the 21st century, the age of ultimate opportunity and endless possibilities. Consider alternative options, do your research, — there’s this thing…it’s called the INTERNET — look online for resources, tools, and mentors that are cheaper than the college route (you’ll be surprised at how many FREE resources you’ll be able to find!) JUST LOOK.

REMEMBER:
At the end of the day, all colleges and universities (at least in the US) are in the business to MAKE MONEY. They will always be ready and gladly willing to take your money. What’s the rush?

IF YOU JUST ANSWERED NO. STOP HERE. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO COLLEGE. (AT LEAST NOT YET)

WHY? — How old are you? 17? 18, 19, 20-something? Do you really want to set yourself up with debt you have no clue on how you’re going to pay back post college before you’ve even made it to living a quarter of a century? Like…really? If being indebted and financially slaved to banks and the US government sounds appealing to you…then by all means, be my guest. But even without a college degree — I think you’re smarter than that.

If you leave here remembering only ONE THING from this article, I hope it’s this: At the end of the day, all colleges and universities (at least in the US) are in the business to MAKE MONEY. They will always be ready and gladly willing to take your money. SO what is the rush?

I wish this had been a topic of (better) discussion when I graduated high school and was having second thoughts about going to college right away.

This is the advice I wish had been given to me by a parent, a teacher, a mentor, a friend…anyone — before I went to college.
