An Overview of the Accredited Buyer’s Representative Designation

With nearly two decades of experience as a real estate agent operating primarily in the downtown Chicago market, Anne Ewasko is currently a broker with Baird & Warner. A dedicated industry professional, Anne Ewasko holds the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) designation, among other professional credentials.

A designation from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council (REBAC), the ABR credential is designed for Realtors who primarily work with home buyers. A way for Realtors to set themselves apart from the competition, the designation also allows recipients access to benefits like a referral network and publications.

To qualify for an ABR designation, a Realtor must meet three separate guidelines, as well as maintain membership in both REBAC and NAR. First, Realtor applicants must complete a two-day comprehensive course. Then, within three years of successfully completing the course, the ABR applicant must complete one elective course. Finally, he or she must prove the successful completion of five different single-realtor buyer’s representative transactions. There is also an administrative option for Realtors who work in the industry but are not chiefly involved in the buying or selling of homes.
