This reminds me of a Marianne Williamson quote: “We’re all assigned a piece of the garden, a corner of the universe that is ours to transform. Our corner of the universe is our own life - our relationships, our homes, our work, our current circumstances - exactly as they are. Every situation we find ourselves in is an opportunity, perfectly planned by the Holy Spirit, to teach love instead of fear.”
Dear John — first, thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my piece. I had not thought about that part of burden-bearing, what to do after it’s collected. And yet the thing that makes the most sense is what you say — to give them over to God. And it is a practice, after all, so there is much to learn. Thank you for your insight.
I love this so much! The lows always make me want to quit. Often I do, for a few months or so. And then I come back. It’s great making art for yourself, but it’s also nice to have it touch others. I’m curious Todd, how long did it take you to make art solely for yourself? To get to that point of having felt both the highs and lows and persist in creating despite them?
