Thing is this is exactly how their ‘reality’ works. Information determines reality, not the other way around, and there’s literally no such thing as an individual voice. Everyone speaks for a group, and anyone speaking for a different group must be shut down. Not debated. Not engaged. Shut down. Because if they can’t speak then their reality doesn’t exist.
Apparently the people who voted #Trump didn’t get that particular memo.
This is why they claim to be either a minority or majority depending on which is most useful at the time. This is why they’ll state ‘[pronoun] does not represent me’ whenever anyone of the same ‘tribe’ diverges from their ideology. Because it’s not really about the [pronouns] they claim to speak for, but only the [pronouns] like themselves.
So the fact #Trump became president isn’t just a practical threat (which it most certainly is), but an existential one too, because there’s no way he could have won in their reality. An honest answer requires dangerous levels of cognitive dissonance, so instead they just shut down anyone who raises the question.
And that’s exactly what happened.
