I’ve big concerns about this line. Generally, someone who contributes to an open source project on GitHub has a day job giving him money. If more and more people move to open source, I wonder how it will be long term sustainable.

Right now we are on the rising curve or growth. MS and others have loads of money to still go on. How would things be when we hit some saturation?

This goes beyond just software, it has an impact on ad-based revenue model too. Revenue models as we know are fundamentally shifting and no one is sure in which direction we are headed.
