The True Story Behind “Bad Luck Brian”
We’ve all seen this meme before, it’s been remixed millions of times but the text on the photos are about “Brian”, who can’t ever seem to catch a break. We know this meme as “Bad Luck Brian”, but in reality his name is Kyle Craven and as it turns out he purposely tried to look absurd in the yearbook photo. Unfortunately the school principal did not permit it because of how silly he looked.
Kyle and his buddy, Ian Davies managed to score a digital copy of the photo and that was the start of his internet fame. Ian posted the original meme and wrote “Takes driving test… gets first DUI”. He also decided to name it Bad Luck Brian because, well it’s much more catchy than Bad Luck Kyle. Even though Kyle only had “15 minutes of fame”, the meme still managed to land him over $20,000 from ad campaigns , but as with all things on the internet he and his (in)famous meme seems to be fading away over time.
