Millions of Americans struggle to know where their next meal is coming from, and those individuals and families who face food insecurity often rely on community support systems, food banks, and local organizations to access healthy and nutritious food. Food insecurity can put individuals at a higher risk for diabetes, obesity, and other health complications and that’s why Anthem put a special focus on efforts to end hunger during Anthem Volunteer Days 2019.

Since 2015, Anthem associates and other volunteers have put their time and energy into volunteer service projects across the country that support the health and well-being of our neighbors. And every year, volunteers have made a positive impact for our must vulnerable neighbors — those who are battling cancer and complex conditions, the homeless, seniors, and more. The collective efforts of Anthem associates, Lions Clubs volunteers, and community members this year and in year’s past have made a difference to improve food security for American families.

Anthem Volunteer Days impact metrics inclusive of all associate, Lions Clubs volunteer, and community member efforts since 2015.

You can learn more about the full impact of our efforts to improve food security for communities by viewing the Anthem Volunteer Days 2019 infographic. We also encourage you to watch our 2019 recap video to hear directly from associates about how food insecurity affects Americans and what it means to them to make a difference through Anthem Volunteer Days service projects.

At Anthem, we’re committed to taking a holistic approach to care for those we serve that addresses all aspects of a person’s life that impact their health. By improving food access through Anthem Volunteer Days projects, we support our mission to improve the health and well-being of our communities. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time this fall, shared their personal #AnthemCaresBecause story with us and helped us in our mission to make hunger history.
