The Silent Killer
Why are men not allowed to share their feelings?
WHAT DOES BEING A REAL MAN MEAN?
IS THERE ONE KIND OF MAN?
ARE MEN ALLOWED TO BE WEAK?
I’m asking these things because it’s been brought to my attention that men especially in the UK are suffering. Suffering in silence…
“Real men” don’t show weakness and speaking about your feelings is a sign of weakness. But amongst all of this nonsense there’s men who are depressed and don’t want to talk about it because it’s “weak”.
Men are depressed and killing themselves at an alarming rate.
“Figures collated by the Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm) show there were 4,623 male suicides in the UK in 2014, the second highest number in 15 years and the equivalent of 12 deaths a day…” theguardian.com
I’d like to think I pay close attention to the media so I’m not sure why this wasn’t news or why it’s not being taken seriously.
The idea that men showing emotion is weak is rubbish.
This myth needs to be debunked once and for all because it’s actually killing people. Men have problems and want to share them but they can’t because they’re afraid of being seen as weak.
Men need to understand there’s strength in being vulnerable. Strength is needed to reach out and tell someone you need help because it’s not a easy thing to do.
It takes strength to be open with someone and say what you really feel.
So be strong and express yourself. Reach out to someone. Nobody deserves to suffer in silence…
