Pixel Vault case study
For this case study, I started looking into MetaHero, then discovered a huge universe created by Pixel Vault. Founders of Pixel Vaults are GFunk.eth (34.9k) and Preston Johnson (42k, host of a NFT show).
Looking at their Twitter, their oldest tweet is from April 23rd, it is a retweet of a tweet from Beanie (153k) introducing the participants and some punks featured in the comic.
Most of the first tweets are not from Pixel Vault but from Beanie who is senior art critic for the project, and it seems his visibility has boosted the project.
Key projects
Punks Comic
Based on the punks, the characters of the comics are full body representation of them.
The story happens in an alternative universe drawn by a Marvel comic artist. Each comic
book is represented by an NFT token with utility. The first issue was of 10k editions.
Minting the first edition of the comic is the only way to access and choose between:
- Burning your comic and gaining access to the Founder’s DAO (not possible anymore)
- Stacking your comic and receiving rewards in $PUNK.
DAO NFT holders have governance over the DAO and its contents (fractionalization of Crypto Punks NFT, individual item sales, buyouts, etc) + access to a private Discord. $PUNKS represent fractional ownership of the 16 CryptoPunks represented in the comic. $PUNKS holders also benefit from the revenue of merch and other sales.
Second edition of the comic will include heroes from other NFT collections of Pixel Vault (but part of the same universe) and Pixel Vault Punks Comic is backed by ADIDAS, BAYC and GMONEY.
MetaHero Identities
A collection of hero, villain and mutant identity NFTs inspired by the main characters in Punks comic. Of the 9,5k+ collection, 146 “cores” will be premium characters in the future MetaHero Universe Game experience and used as ambassador characters. They are drawn by Chris Wahl and 64 of them will be used in comic #3.
Owners can stake their NFTs to earn $POW, the in-game currency of the future game.
A minting pass is reserved for every Comic holder.
MetaHero Universe
“Home to MetaHero Identities, MetaHero Universe consists of planets owned and governed by their respective planetary DAOs. Each planet token represents one fraction of planetary DAO ownership.The community will actively build, govern, and own the Universe through the United Planets DAO (UPDAO), a central DAO controlled by each of the planetary DAOs. Each planet provides revenue opportunities to the DAOs and players via land-based sales, environmental resources, wearables, gameplay, and more as governed by the community. All Identity holders will be able to unlock a DAO token of their MetaHero’s planet of origin as well as a MintPass #2 (exchangeable for a MetaHero Sidekick at a later date).

Roadmap and ambitions
The roadmap of this project is really complex : as the team explains, they are thinking big. Meaning that every project has its own roadmap with a lot of small events. The big project is the MetaHero game.

Key marketing leverages
Discord analysis
Closed community with almost no open channel for people who don’t own assets from the universe. They seem to be using the public side of the discord as a communication tool that summarizes all important current information and on the private side as a closed group talk server.
