But what is a meme?
A meme is an image with some text that are used to relate to everyday life.
Early this year, the “Roll Safe” meme or the “Can’t X If You Y Guy”, has become quite popular.
On June 1st, 2016, BBC Three posted a clip called “Happy Belated” in a series #HoodDocumentary. This video featured actor Kayode Ewumi, who starred as Reece Simpson a.k.a. R.S. a.k.a. The clip didn’t become a meme right away. On November 15th, 2016, @FootHumor were the first to turn this image into a meme.
Even after that, the meme did not become a thing until late January where it showed up again, which everyone should have encountered on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. Within eight days, the tweet gained over 18000 retweets and 17000 likes.
The next day, another meme was tweeted receiving more than 74000 likes and 47000 retweets over the next week.
After this, it became a big hit on twitter and people started to see it all over the internet, even became a hit on Reddit circuit. Within eight months, the original video gained over 1.04 million views and 1300 comments.
The meme became so popular in a short span, and it is entertaining to see how creative the people are with coming up with these captions.
