Don’t throw sand over my eyes. On the burkini ban and European cruelty

My initial reaction was to defend a woman’s right to be as clothed as they wanted at a beach, until I heard an interesting perspective on the burka. They said many slaves fought their freedom too. Many claimed to have been treated well and they enjoyed the protection slavery in southern U.S. gave them. I often wonder if the burka/burkini is a symbol of the slavery of women. If we tolerate it, are we tolerating intolerance? They may say it is their choice, they may believe it is their choice, but if they have never experienced freedom, how do they know? Does it still make it right?
