As a veteran, Trump’s words are unacceptable

Darrell Issa is very open about being a Donald Trump supporter — so let’s be very clear about what that means.

It means Issa supports a man who used the national media to insult a Muslim American Gold Star family’s loss and said our lost soldier’s mother had “not been allowed to have anything to say” by her husband, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

A man who said about former prisoner of war, Senator John McCain, “He is a war hero because he was captured, I like people who weren’t captured.”

Even after these statements, my opponent, Darrell Issa, has stood by Donald Trump. I know you have had enough, I sure have. Can you make an urgent contribution of $3 right now?

Shockingly, Trump’s anti-veteran rampage doesn’t end there…

Donald Trump is a man who received five deferments to avoid serving in the Vietnam War. He says “I always felt like I was in the military,” because he was educated at a private military academy?

His list of sacrifices is long, and well-documented. In his words:

“I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”

One of those things he did, during a Vietnam deferment in 1973, was get sued by the U.S. Department of Justice because he “refused to rent or negotiate rentals ‘because of race and color.”

Donald Trump has made disgusting comments about our veterans and our military. Through all of that, Darrell Issa still supports him. Will you rush a donation of $3 right now to help me defeat Issa in November?

How can our nation ever thank him for his contributions and sacrifices? Well, Trump thinks he deserves a Purple Heart.

A wounded veteran gave Trump the medal he received from being wounded in action. Trump was gracious, saying, “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.” Well, that’s because you didn’t earn it.

Not only as an American, but a veteran, Trump has crossed the line, not once, but time and time again. He spews nasty, self-righteous nonsense about veterans without ever having served or making any real sacrifices. Anyone who asked for and received five deferments from military service in Vietnam should refrain from speaking about those who answered the ultimate call to serve.

After this shockingly long list of offensive comments, Darrell Issa still calls Donald Trump the ‘obvious choice’. He needs to answer why. He owes it to the thousands of veterans and our sons and daughters on active duty in our district. This goes beyond party loyalty — it’s about respect, it’s about decency.

It’s time for Darrell Issa to take responsibility for his support of Donald Trump. Chip in $3 so we can finally get Darrell Issa out of Congress.

I’ve had enough of Donald Trump and Darrell Issa. Have you?

Sincerely,

Doug Applegate
