You guys, GamerGate was totally right about Star Wars!

I’m sure by now you have all read that hilarious ‘analysis’ by a misguided poor little GamerGater who thought Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a metaphor for his desperate struggle against the evil feminazi’s and other SJW’s a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. But you know, after a lot of musing, I realized… he might be right. Maybe The Force Awakens is an allegory for GamerGate. Except with GamerGate as the First Order, of course. Let’s see…

Ideology

The First Order is a reactionary movement that ‘rebels’ against a relatively recent environment of diversity and progress in the galaxy (i.e. the New Republic) and wants to return to an oppressive regime. GamerGate is a reactionary movement that ‘rebels’ against a relatively recent environment of diversity and progress in the gaming community (progressive critique, artsy games, etc.) and wants to return to the ‘good old days’ of gaming being a white cis straight boys’ club where no one is allowed to think.

Slander

The First Order justifies its extremism by portraying its enemies as ‘liars, thieves and murders’ without a speck of evidence. It genuinely believes it is fighting the good fight, protecting the galaxy from the evils of the liberal New Republic. GamerGate justifies its extremism by portraying its enemies (read: targets and victims) as domestic abusers, adulterers, manipulative liars, scam artists or pedophiles, alsowithout a speck of evidence. It genuinely believes it is fighting the good fight, protecting video games from the evils of the liberal ‘SJWs’.

Symbolism

The First Order openly fashions itself after a despotic regime of the past. GamerGate openly appropriates the questionable political propaganda and anti-semitic cartoons of despotic regimes of the past.

Composition

The First Order consists of mostly white, male humans with only a single woman of note (Captain Phasma), whose importance is grossly overstated given that she doesn’t seem to do anything. GamerGate consists of mostly white, male, cisgender, straight men with only a single woman of note (C. H. Sommers), whose importance is grossly overstated given that she has jack shit to do with the video game industry (or feminism, for that matter).

Feelings

The First Order (or at least, Kylo Ren) abhors ‘sentiment’ and sees it as the weakness that brought down the Empire. GamerGate constantly whines about how their ‘realism’ and ‘rationality’ should trump ‘emotions’ (‘reals before feels’) and notoriously despises games that are about feelings, such as Gone Home or Undertale.

Location

The First Order lives on an uninhabitable shithole in the middle of nowhere (Starkiller Base). Gamergate also lives on an uninhabitable shithole in the middle of nowhere (8chan).

Leader

The leader of the First Order is a horrible troll with ulterior motives (Supreme Leader Snoke). The ‘leaders’ of GamerGate are also horrible trolls with ulterior motives (Milo Yiannopoulos and friends).

In short…

The First Order is a reactionary, pseudo-fascist organization of whiny pissbabies. GamerGate is also a reactionary, pseudo-fascist organization of whiny pissbabies, only without lightsabers.

There, is just proved absolutely nothing, except that you can spin anything in your favour as long as you present a bunch of far-fetched analogies. Did you know that Mad Max: Fury Road is totally about the 2016 Republican Party presidential nomination?
