When I was studying English in junior and senior high school, listening sessions in English class were like watching a horror movie. As if I’ve just listened to people speaking with gargling. At that time, perhaps media for listening exercises was not as many as it is now. Students usually learned by listening to English songs. At that time, the condition was a lack of YouTube channels or podcasts. In contrast, today, media for English learning especially listening is flourishing, from podcasts on Spotify, YouTube, films, etc.

So, now I share some YouTube channels that can assist in learning English. Check them out!

1. Lingua Marina

Lingua Marina is a YouTube channel from Marina Mogilko. She is a start-up CEO, who graduated from Standford Universiry. She is very concerned about education and learning, especially in English. In her channel, Marina often shares tips for English learning, but mostly in the American version, since she is a part of US citizen. I am fascinated by her skill in speaking American English. Although she is not a Native American, but Lingua Marina is one of the best channel for learning American English easily.

2. English with Lucy

When Lingua Marina channel is typical American English, English with Lucy provides the British version. The youtuber, Lucy is a native speaker from the UK, so she has 100% British accent. I think she is one of the people whom I can hear her accent clearly. As you know, sometimes many people feel difficult to hear clearly and catch up on information from British accent because of its uniqueness.

3. BBC Learning English

I think no one doesn’t know about BBC. BBC is a big media from the UK. BBC has many channels for English Learning from websites, apps on mobile phones, television, and YouTube. 6 Minutes English is one of my favourite programs from BBC Learning English for improving my listening since its duration is short but concise, so it doesn’t make the listener or viewer feel bored. Furthermore, in 6 minutes English, there is a session where the speaker introduces and explains some new words for increasing vocabulary. Topics covered in 6 Minutes English are various, from environment, health, lifestyle, and the latest news. Another of my favourite program from BBC Learning English is BBC News Review. The duration is similar to 6 Minutes English, but it explains some examples of news headline and the host provide a description and explanation about the use of words and vocabulary. BBC Learning English is still on my top YouTube channel until now.

4. Lavendaire

The last is different from the above recommendations. Lavendaire has another style. Lavendaire is not a specific channel for English learning. However, I love to watch or listen to this in my spare time. Since the topics she talks about on YouTube are simple but sometimes deep such as mindfulness, good habit, simple living, self-reflection, and motivation. Not too serious topics but related to daily life and it can help the listener to manage time, skill, and emotion. It is extremely addictive to listen Lavendaire. Try it!

Okay, those are some of my recommendations about YouTube channels for improving English listening skills. However, there are many more channels or media for improving it. If you have other recommendations, comment below with your opinion.
