Lesson: It’s not over until it’s over.

When I sat my ACT exam for University entrance I did not know we had a choice whether or not to send the results directly to the nominated University. I was sick the day I took the exam and did miserably on it. I did not get in to the one and only University I had applied to. A couple of months later I received a letter from the University, saying they had a ‘quota program’ for students with generally good qualifications, but whose entrance exams didn’t quite make the cutoff. I took my portfolio and interviewed and was given a position at the University of choice. Years later, I learned from my advisor that often the students admitted in these circumstances achieve better results than those who got in on the initial attempt.
